About Edinburgh Waverley
Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and second largest city, after Glasgow, also being the 7th most populous city in UK. It is situated in the southeast area of Scotland, on the east coast of the Central Belt, along the Firth of Forth, near the North Sea. Edinburgh is considered to be one of the most picturesque cities in Europe, due to its fantastic and spectacular rugged setting and vast collection of Medieval and Georgian architecture.
Attracting over 1 million visitors from across the sea, Edinburgh is recognized as the second most visited attraction in the UK, right after London. It was also voted the "most desirable city in which to live in the UK", and it was rated "The Best Place to Live" in Channel 4's 2007 4Homes survey, as well.
Archaeological evidences suggest that the area where Edinburgh stands today has been inhabited at least since the Bronze Age, leaving traces of primitive stone settlements at Holyrood, Craiglockhart Hill and the Pentland Hills being found.
The city is noted, today, for its fine architecture and vast selection of appealing attractions, as well as for its exciting annual events, which attract a large number of visitors, every year, among the city's most popular festivals being: Edinburgh Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
